Ques 1.What are the Advantages of IIT JAM Exam?

IIT JAM is to take Admission in M. Sc./Ph.D. & other post graduate Exams.
By qualifying JAM Test Candidates can apply for:

1 M. Sc. (Two Year)

2 Joint M. Sc. - Ph.D.

3 M. Sc. - Ph.D. Dual Degree

4 M. Sc. - M.Tech.

5 Post - Bachelor Degree Courses at different IITs

6 Integrated Ph.D. Courses at IISC

Selection will be done through All India Merit Rank System.

Ques 2. What is the Exam Pattern of IIT JAM 2017?


There are 3 different types of questions asked in IIT JAM. There will be total of 60 questions carrying 100 marks.

1 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ)

2 Multiple Select Questions (MSQ)

3 Numerical Answer Type (NAT) Questions


1Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) :


Each MCQ type question has four choices out of which only one choice is the correct answer. There will be 30 questions in the Test which will be based on MCQ. Which will carry one or two marks each.


2Multiple Select Questions (MSQ) :

Each MSQ type question is similar to MCQ but with a difference that there may be one or more than one choice(s) that are correct out of the four given choices. There will be 10 questions in the Test which will be based on MSQ. Which will carry 2 marks for each.


3.  Numerical Answer Type (NAT) Questions :

For each NAT type question, the answer is a signed real number which needs to be entered using the virtual keypad on the monitor. No choices will be shown for these type of questions. There will be 20 questions in the Test which will be based on NAT. Which will carry one or two marks each.


Ques 3. Is there any Negative Marking System in IIT JAM?

Yes, there is Negative Marking System in IIT JAM. But the questions you don’t attempt in the exam, will mark zero.

The Negative Cutoff Marks are described here section wise -


1.  Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) Section:

Your wrong answer will result Negative marks.

I) For all 1 mark questions, 1/3 marks will be deducted for each wrong answer.

II) For 2/3 marks will be deducted for each wrong answer.


2  Multiple Select Questions (MSQ) & Numerical Answer Type (NAT) Questions Section:

there is no negative Marking in these sections.


Ques 4.  What is the eligibility criteria to write IIT JAM? & Can engineering students write IIT JAM?


Aspirants!!
The Eligibility Criteria for JAM is given here. To appear in IIT JAM, you must have obtained these aggregate marks without rounding off.

For General/OBC/NIL Category:  55%

For SC/ ST and PWD Category: 50%

Yes, Engineering Students are eligible to write IIT JAM.
Candidates who have bachelors Degree of 3 or 4 years in science stream, can apply for JAM.
